Adam Amr - Artist Relief Campaign

Adam Amr is a working musician from Portland Oregon facing a serious health challenge.

Adam was recently diagnosed with a Meningioma, a brain tumor requiring surgery. He is unable to work while awaiting surgery, and recovery will take three to six months after that. For a working musician, that's devastating.

Through the JWF Musician Health & Services Program, this campaign helps cover essential medical and living expenses so Adam can focus on healing.

Your tax-deductible gift, in any amount, goes directly to relief and support for Adam’s immediate needs ❤️

Adam Amr is a drummer in the Portland area who has performed, recorded, and toured with many bands spanning a wide range of genres. This includes rock, old time, and indie folk, but has spanned all types of music throughout his career. In addition to his work as a performing musician, he recently became an instructor at the School of Rock in Portland, helping to teach young musicians to be excited about music and work with other students to make fun and engaging music together.

Recently on tour in Austria, Adam had a seizure while sleeping. His bandmate had to provide medical assistance, and he was taken to the hospital. While there, he had a CT scan and found out that there was a large tumor in his brain. Adam had to spend the next six days hospitalized in the neurology department. After many calls with his health insurance provider, he found that they were unable to cover any medical expenses that were incurred internationally. This means Adam and his family had to fully cover all of the expenses to safely get him home, and he now has a large bill for his hospitalization.

The official diagnosis is Meningioma, which is a tumor in the front left area of the brain. This tumor needs to be removed with surgery, which is set to be about two months after the initial discovery of the tumor. Adam is unable to work while awaiting surgery, and it will be about three to six months of recovery after surgery before he is able to return to any form of work.

The costs Adam has incurred include the stay in the Austrian hospital, which was $8,000 for six days, as well as the most affordable and medically safe flight back home for him and his bandmate, which was $13,000. He is also facing mounting basic living expenses while he’s unable to work. Donations to Adam's JWF Artist Relief Campaign will go directly toward these costs, and will be greatly appreciated for Adam to be able to focus on his health, recovery, and ability to live comfortably.
